Who doesn’t want to feel like Cleopatra?
On Thursday evening I attended the Anuja Tolia trunk show, blocks away from the White House. Anuja Tolia is a New York based jewelry designer, and decided to take her collection to the capitol. When I laid eyes on her jewelry, the first thing that came to mind was culture. Anuja even told me, “I get inspiration on the streets of New York, just watching how people walk and what they are wearing. I use a lot of ethnic influence in my designs, to try and put a spin on [the jewels] I make.” Included in the collection were hints of Persian, Greek, and Indian backgrounds, to show how art can truly become wearable. Most people and I would agree that her best work is her line of rings. Either simple or complete cocktail, every ring gave off a different vibe. It doesn’t matter what accessory you choose to wear, you’ll not only feel like Cleopatra, you will be Cleopatra (at least for the time being you’re wearing one of her pieces).
These were my favorite rings. The jagged, yet wearable, jewel wrapped in metal wire left a strong statement of soft and rugged, mixed together. Either in lapis or black onyx, the ring could dress up a rather dull outfit in a second. The “wire bunch” ring can be yours for around $150.
1974 called, and said that they don’t want these earrings back, because they’re too scared people will get to angry, as they’re gorgeous! Obviously, these were my favorite pair of earrings. They reminded me of a Grecian disco ball (I mean that in the most positive of ways). Pair these with the infamous little black dress, and your ensemble will become instantly chicer. These eye catchers, known as the “gladiator earrings” can be yours for around $175.
I’m obsessed with her cuffs. They look perfect on, and add a luxurious touch to anyone’s outfit. These bracelets are an easy statement piece to invest in. While I preferred her metal cuffs, she designs cuffs with skins too. These specific pieces run from $225 to $335.
I asked Anuja what her three favorite pieces were, and she responded, “Well, my favorite piece is the cage ring. It’s very similar to my personality, big and bold. I also love my linked necklaces, whether in silver or rose gold. And the cuffs, they’re always a staple.”
If I had to choose my three favorite pieces, they would all be her rings. I love the “Wrap Ring,” the “Grecian Torch Ring,” and the “Cage Ring.” Go check them out!
